The story behind the name
Studying individual stocks one by one is hard, and individual investors have little power next to giant institutions. But we believe volume does not lie: if trading volume jumps, someone is buying. When a large company that has gone nowhere for nearly a year suddenly trades at several times its usual volume, it can be a sign that someone has started looking at it again. We call these stocks sleeping giants. We built this tool so that many people can see that signal easily, filtered on numbers alone, automatically, after every market close.
How stocks are found
In Korea we scan KOSPI and KOSDAQ, and in the US the S&P 500, and show only stocks that meet all three conditions: a volume surge, a year of sideways movement, and positive operating profit. The thresholds, data sources, and what we do not do are on the screening criteria page.
