Screening criteria

After each trading day's market close, SleepingGiant shows only the stocks that meet all three conditions below. All conditions are numeric.

  • 1 · Volume 3x or more 20-day average volume ÷ 250-day average volume
  • 2 · 1-year return +10% or less Current price ÷ close 250 trading days ago − 1 (declines included)
  • 3 · Operating profit Positive Latest confirmed fiscal year or last 4 quarters combined (estimates excluded)

When is the data posted?

Results are posted once closing prices and volume are final: after the regular session closes for Korean stocks, and after the US regular session closes for US stocks. Korean stocks are updated once a day after 3:30 p.m. KST on weekdays, and US stocks after the US market close. On market holidays there are no new results, and the results of the previous trading day remain visible.

Days when the threshold is relaxed

If no stock in a market passes the 3x threshold, the volume threshold is lowered from 3x to 2x for that market. The 1-year return and operating profit conditions are not lowered. On those days, the badge below and the reason are shown at the top of the results.

Covered stocks (universe)

Korea: stocks listed on KOSPI or KOSDAQ with a market capitalization of at least KRW 500 billion; SPACs, REITs, ETNs, ETFs and preferred shares are excluded. US: S&P 500 constituents with a market capitalization of about USD 710 million (about KRW 1 trillion) or more. Stocks with insufficient data, such as those listed for less than one year, are excluded.

What SleepingGiant does not do

SleepingGiant does not recommend stocks or suggest when to buy or sell. Passing the criteria does not mean the stock price will rise. No detail page is created for stocks that do not pass the criteria.
